The article examines the content and structure of a collection of legislative norms compiled in 827 by Abbot Ansegisus of Fontenelle. Ansegisus juxtaposes the laws issued by Charlemagne with those promulgated by his son, Louis the Pious, in order to demonstrate the strong continuity that characterized the Carolingian approach to the joint governance of the Kingdom and the Church in a Frankish-dominated Europe. Ansegisus's objective is to curb the early signs of the dynastic conflict that would come to define the central decades of Louis the Pious’s reign.

Abstract
The article examines the content and structure of a collection of legislative norms compiled in 827 by Abbot Ansegisus of Fontenelle. Ansegisus juxtaposes the laws issued by Charlemagne with those promulgated by his son, Louis the Pious, in order to demonstrate the strong continuity that characterized the Carolingian approach to the joint governance of the Kingdom and the Church in a Frankish-dominated Europe. Ansegisus's objective is to curb the early signs of the dynastic conflict that would come to define the central decades of Louis the Pious’s reign.File in questo prodotto:
