Characterized by the need for an emotional correspondence with his own literary and nonfiction production, Stephen Spender's theoretical reflections, animated by his belonging to the Auden Generation and sharing the demands of a political commitment, translate into a questioning of the liberal tradition and adherence, albeit controversial, irregular and provisional, to the positions of British communism. This tension converges in his opposition to fascism, which, sometimes bent to the demands of ideological conformity, nevertheless takes on its most authentic meaning in the relationship he established between the inner dimension and the public sphere and in his tendency to defend the reasons for historical truth and his irreducible aversion to all forms of material and cultural oppression.

Abstract
Characterized by the need for an emotional correspondence with his own literary and nonfiction production, Stephen Spender's theoretical reflections, animated by his belonging to the Auden Generation and sharing the demands of a political commitment, translate into a questioning of the liberal tradition and adherence, albeit controversial, irregular and provisional, to the positions of British communism. This tension converges in his opposition to fascism, which, sometimes bent to the demands of ideological conformity, nevertheless takes on its most authentic meaning in the relationship he established between the inner dimension and the public sphere and in his tendency to defend the reasons for historical truth and his irreducible aversion to all forms of material and cultural oppression.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
