This paper attempts an analysis at micro-areas level of the consolidated economic relation usually inquired among countries, regions and provinces. According with this aim the first step is to rebuild performance economic indicators (e.g value added –VA-) coherent, in particular, with municipality levels. Through Chow Li (1971) and Bollino (1998) methodology we construct the VA for the Umbria municipalities (years 2001-2003) and then we perform a convergence analysis which shows the high heterogeneity that characterize the micro-areas as the result of two different spatial behaviour. On the one side, there is the “periphery” that show a common pattern; on the other side, there is an “excellent decile” which enjoys a higher growth level, explained by contiguity and agglomeration mechanisms.

Abstract
This paper attempts an analysis at micro-areas level of the consolidated economic relation usually inquired among countries, regions and provinces. According with this aim the first step is to rebuild performance economic indicators (e.g value added –VA-) coherent, in particular, with municipality levels. Through Chow Li (1971) and Bollino (1998) methodology we construct the VA for the Umbria municipalities (years 2001-2003) and then we perform a convergence analysis which shows the high heterogeneity that characterize the micro-areas as the result of two different spatial behaviour. On the one side, there is the “periphery” that show a common pattern; on the other side, there is an “excellent decile” which enjoys a higher growth level, explained by contiguity and agglomeration mechanisms.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
