This short article summarizes some reflections on the current trends concerning currencies and distribution of wealth according to very high-level observations about what is happening on the markets internationally. Whilst the author tries to give a more general economic and historical overview, particularly on a monetary angle, on the topics considered, it is important to remember that the points developed here are based on some intuitive considerations and less on a specific quantitative analysis. In particular, the parallel amongst the idea of trust in the banking sector and trust in the currencies is something which leads to easy conclusions in terms of a possible parallel, but will also need to be seen in terms of the effects that the lack of trust in the financial economy might cause, including unwanted consequences in terms of financial stability.
