This paper deals with the advantages of combining the Functional Analysis (FA) method with the Axiomatic Design (AD) theory. The FA produces a rough outline of the product based on the Correlation Matrix, a representation of the relationships between the components and the functions that the product has to accomplish. The AD works in a similar way: the components and the functions are developed contemporaneously and the representation is based on a set of matrices. Using both the methods makes it easier to develop the functional representation of the product, as the proposed case study of an earth-moving machine demonstrates.

Abstract
This paper deals with the advantages of combining the Functional Analysis (FA) method with the Axiomatic Design (AD) theory. The FA produces a rough outline of the product based on the Correlation Matrix, a representation of the relationships between the components and the functions that the product has to accomplish. The AD works in a similar way: the components and the functions are developed contemporaneously and the representation is based on a set of matrices. Using both the methods makes it easier to develop the functional representation of the product, as the proposed case study of an earth-moving machine demonstrates.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
