The analyzed experience teaches that the “useful contribu- tion” is not given by a specific product but by a continuous exchange between Ad- ministration and citizens, a sort of mutual control during the crucial phases of the construction of the work.

Il successo del recupero di Piazza Testaccio, nello storico rione di Roma, testimo- nia come la complessa partecipazione attiva dei cittadini, a prescindere dal suppor- to dei regolamenti vigenti, sia fondamentale per riqualificare i luoghi nei quali si vive. L’esperienza analizzata insegna che il “contributo utile” non è dato da un pro- dotto specifico ma da uno scambio continuo tra Amministrazione e cittadini, una sorta di controllo reciproco durante le fasi cruciali della realizzazione dell’opera.
