After a period of decline, moulages have become a subject of interest again in more recent times since they represent unique artifacts of art, craftsmanship, and medical history. Werther's collection at Dresden-Friedrichstadt Hospital was one of the most important in Dresden-the capital of Saxony-during the period before World War II. Some relicts have survived and have been restored.
