The fading of the artistic fervour ot the 1930s and the elaboration of the sense of crisis caused by the Munich Agreement, the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact and the Battle of Britain coincide, however, with the compelling need to contrast a problematic present and the attempt to orient its future directions, both through the definition of war objectives and the elaboration of reconstruction projects doomed to have effects in the following years.

Abstract
Within the prolonged theoric debate which developped in Great Britain between the 1920s and the end of World War II, the two-year period 1939-1940 are characterised by intense critical reflection which, involving men of letters, scholars and politicians, results into a call into question of the revolutionary positions of the “Red Decade”. The fading of the artistic fervour ot the 1930s and the elaboration of the sense of crisis caused by the Munich Agreement, the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact and the Battle of Britain coincide, however, with the compelling need to contrast a problematic present and the attempt to orient its future directions, both through the definition of war objectives and the elaboration of reconstruction projects doomed to have effects in the following years.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
