Il Premio Nobel 2022 a Bernanke, Diamond e Dybvig. Premiati gli studi sulla rilevanza e le crisi delle banche

The 2022 Nobel Prize was awarded to Ben Bernanke, Douglas D. Diamond and Philip H. Dybvig, for their research on banks and financial crises. Diamond and Dybvig focused on the reasons for existence of banks and on the needs that their services satisfy, while Bernanke was awarded for his studies on the issue of bank runs.The Nobel Committee wanted to reward these scholars’ ability to answer some very relevant questions in banking economics.The foundations of modern banking research were in fact laid by the three scholars in the early 1980s and their insights were very relevant for the foundation of modern banking regulation.This article, which represents the recurring stage of ongoing research work, describes the winners of the 2022 Nobel Prize, some curiosities about the awarding ceremonies and their main fields of study, with a particular focus on the theme of bank runs and consequent regulatory implications.
