The paper aims to investigate the section of Lucretius’ De Rerum Natura (5.1029-1090), with particular focus on the ‘modernity’ of Lucretian theory about the origin of language. I suggest that in these verses Lucretius expresses a position that reconciles the various scientific opinions on the origo linguae discussed in both ancient and modern times and that, additionally, he anticipates, with a remarkably contemporary perspective, the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to this topic.

Abstract
The paper aims to investigate the section of Lucretius’ De Rerum Natura (5.1029-1090), with particular focus on the ‘modernity’ of Lucretian theory about the origin of language. I suggest that in these verses Lucretius expresses a position that reconciles the various scientific opinions on the origo linguae discussed in both ancient and modern times and that, additionally, he anticipates, with a remarkably contemporary perspective, the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to this topic.File in questo prodotto:
